Why St Francis?

St Francis life was guided by kindness, humility, respect and a deep care for the world. He was known for his compassion, his ability to connect with people from all walks of life and his love of nature and peace. These qualities will be our focus as we shape the culture of the College, where learning will be grounded in empathy, integrity and a strong sense of community.

We believe that academic success thrives in an environment where students feel supported, inspired and connected. Guided by the example of St Francis, we will create learning experiences that challenge students intellectually while encouraging personal growth and social awareness. Through high-quality teaching, inclusive values and opportunities for service and environmental stewardship, we aim to prepare students to reach their potential and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

The logo for St Francis Catholic College is a thoughtfully crafted mark that speaks in symbols - quiet, elegant, and profound.
At its centre is a story told not through illustration, but through the purposeful shaping of letterforms, evoking the humility of St Francis, the rhythm of nature, and the deep sense of WONDER that defines the College’s identity.

The hidden Tau cross – a sacred signature

The most striking feature is the Tau cross - not placed above or beside, but subtly built into the very form of the letter ‘F’.
It’s a design choice that reflects St Francis himself, who signed his letters only with the Tau. Hidden in plain sight, it becomes
a powerful metaphor. Faith is not always immediately visible - but when discovered, it transforms the way we see.

The embrace of the ‘S’ – A symbol of nurture

The gentle curve of the ‘S’ wraps partially around the Tau, creating a sense of embrace. This is a deliberate gesture: it symbolises the care, warmth, and protective spirit that every member of the community carries within the College and educator carries within the school. The intertwining of form evokes a modern monogram, subtly referencing traditional school crests, but reinterpreted with a clean, contemporary grace.

Carved serifs – A nod to tradition
The distinct serifs on the ‘S’ and ‘F’ are inspired by the hand carved ends of wooden Tau crosses, often seen in historical depictions of St Francis. These details connect the logo to the College’s spiritual and cultural heritage - simple, crafted, and enduring - while grounding the mark in the tactile reality of making, shaping, and forming lives.

The full stop – A celestial mark of permanence

The full stop is more than punctuation. It brings a sense of permanence and clarity, grounding the logo with certainty. Symbolically, it represents the sun, moon, and planets - the cyclical and celestial nature of time, learning, and existence. It becomes a point of stillness and completeness within a journey of growth.

Designed to evoke wonder

Above all, the logo is an invitation to WONDER. It doesn’t reveal everything at once. Like stained glass catching morning light, it changes as you look. There’s discovery in the forms, meaning in the details, and harmony in the composition. It teaches - without words - that every element has purpose, and that beauty often lies in what you almost missed.
